ABOUT ISOGEM

Welcome to the  International Society for
Genomic and Evolutionary Microbiology or
ISOGEM. The ISOGEM is registered in Sardinia,
Italy as an International organisation, committed
to the development of post genomic ideas in the
context of better public health and the
environment.  The society supports fruitful
utilization and meaningful channelization of the
wealth of genomic and transcriptomic data being
churned out as a result of atleast 500 different
microbial sequencing and several arraying
projects.

To achieve this noble mission the society will act
to assemble scientists working in the areas of
microbial pathogen genomics and health care.
Also it will act as an information centre for all
aspects of microbial genomics. The society will
organize and endorse the conferences and
symposia involving molecular pathogenesis,
genomics, bacterial evolution and epidemic
control. The society has  inducted high profile
scientists and academicians to serve on its
international board of advisers.

Collaborative Networks

ISOGEM is currently implementing research programs
through its specialized working groups. The following
working groups have been currently recognized by
ISOGEM to strengthen collaborations and networking in
the areas of pathogen diversity.
These working groups also provide for a platform for
interested members of the society to interact and exchange
ideas and views to develop viable scientific projects.  These
projects may be recognized and supported by national and
international agencies, under the  aegis of the ISOGEM.

1)
Working Group on Tubercle Bacilli
Program Manager: Leonardo Sechi  (sechila@uniss.it)

2)
Working Group on Helicobacters
Program Manager: Niyaz Ahmed  (niyaz@cdfd.org.in)

3)
Working Group on Spirochetes
Program Manager: Rudy  Hartskeerl  (r.hartskeerl@kit.nl)

ISOGEM and Open Access

ISOGEM will be able to start in the second quarter of 2008,
a new Open Access journal, 'Gut Pathogens'. This official
journal of ISOGEM, in collaboration with the European
Helicobacter Study Group, will be published by BioMed
Central Ltd. under their Open Access Umbrella.

As a part of its Open Access policy, ISOGEM is currently
i
nvolved with two Open Access journals, ACMA (Annals of
Clinical Microbiology & Antimicrobials), and IAC (Infectious
Agents and Cancer) published by Biomed Central. ISOGEM
council members Niyaz Ahmed (ACMA and IAC), Leonardo
Sechi (ACMA) and Rudy Hartskeerl (ACMA) serve as
Associate Editors of these journals.

The First Pasteur
Veterinary Award, 2008

Instituted in the fond memory
of Louis Pasteur, this Award of
ISOGEM is given
to an Academic Veterinarian active in the field of genomics / microbiology of veterinary pathogens.

This year's award winner is Professor Vivek Kapur (Penn State, USA) given his excellent contribution in the area of the award.
